Stop leaving money in the cart!

Hey it’s Sam,

I want to get your opinion on something.

Lets say I gave you these two options:

  • Option 1: Sell $100k worth of products with a gross margin of 65% (You keep $65k)

  • Option 2: Sell $160k worth of products with a gross margin of 61.25% (You keep $98K)

Which one would you take?

I’m willing to bet most would choose Option 2 (why wouldn’t you).

But… I think most of us have been choosing Option 1.

At least I have, let me explain.

So last year I did over $100k worth of sales in my Etsy shop.

Like most of us I set up the abandon cart promo and didn’t think much about it.

When I was in Etsy one day I stumbled across this graphic in my stats page:

I was shocked to see that I had nearly $60k worth of sales just sitting in carts!

These shoppers ran the entire race and then stopped just feet from the finish line.

It was in that moment I started on a mission to get as many of those carts to check out as possible.

For the first 4 years of my shop I had a very standard 15% discount for my abandoned carts. Over those 4 years that discount was used 133 times and generated $3,283 in revenue.

A long ways from the $60K sitting in carts.

It was in that moment I decided I was going to be ok making a little bit less if it means I could increase my total revenue by nearly 60%.

About 4 months ago I increased my abandoned cart discount from 15% to 25%.

The results have been shocking!

In just 4 months the new discount has created 219 sales and generated $5,780 in revenue.

$3,283 in 4 years or $5,780 in 4 months?

I know what I’m picking!

If you haven’t go check out your stats page, how much potential revenue is sitting in carts?

Conversations like this are happening all the time in our group discord calls and in my 1-on-1 calls. But I can only put so many of them in newsletters.

It’s my goal that everyone who wants to run a print farm / Etsy shop not only does it but does it profitably.
